Non-Performing loans: state of the art
NPL&UTP – 2023 Edition
The recovery of non-performing loans and the management of likely defaults are, in essence, a form of art. As such, they hold the secrets of the “guild” and require the verbal exchange of knowledge; hence the opportunity to meet again in Verona to allow the “workshops” and their “artists” to share their experiences. New rules (a new crisis code and a new civil procedure reform) are forcing us to challenge consolidated practices. All this in the face of a persistent difficult economic situation, which makes the art of recovery and management increasingly challenging and increasingly subject to uncertainty. Added to this are doubts about a possible financial crisis.
In the past, the credit management sector had already tried to change from ‘art’ to ‘technique’ and from craftsmanship to industrial practice. The Italian NPE market is one of the most advanced and mature from this point of view. However, the congress will give us the opportunity to try and understand together whether recent developments, such as artificial intelligence, could be game changers and therefore transform the industry into a real science. As Thomas Kuhn observed, every revolution disrupts a paradigm, a status artis. If, as some argue, we are indeed approaching the event horizon today, opportunities like these are even more important because they provide a chance not only to take stock of what is happening, but above all to anticipate what is to come. The overall picture can be appreciated only if we get together. The overall picture, as the word says, can emerge only if we combine all our brushstrokes, with a view to creating a consistent picture, which can guide us as “craftsmen in the sector”.
